Laser CNC Learning

Laser CNC Learning

I love productive learning.  Still getting to know the laser side of the CNC with speed, power, material, and cut quality (reducing surface burn).  Starting to get the hang of it.  Like with any other type of woodworking, it’s all the micro adjustments and nuances you have to think through in advance.

This will be used to hold all my bottles of Mixol universal dyes.

Had to do two iterations and two versions to get this just right, but it happened!  V1I1 had all three pieces different sizes.  Holes barely line up and the outer edges are everywhere.  No idea how that happened.  Then V1I2 had everything sized correctly, but there were tiny gaps between the layer cuts and the holes were not exactly where I wanted them (but they lined up).  Scrapped most everything and started afresh with V2, did precision measures, modified the laser settings, and 💥 💥 💥!  Nailed it.

Now I have 150 hole cores…hmmm…I see sunflower coasters in our future!

Version 1, Iteration 1 hot off the press.  Sad that, while excited about the result, the future held much sorrow in this picture.
