Our Cause & Our Story

Our Story and Our Cause

One Cause. One Family. Two Businesses.

"Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God." — Romans 15:17 (NIV)

One Cause

The Continuum of Hope

This isn't a cause we picked. It's the vision God gave our family — before a mother even knows she's carrying a child, through adoption, through the everyday needs of families near us.

“…I was taking notes feverishly — on breaks between meetings, in the evenings, sitting in the parking lot in the car, just anywhere. All kinds of ideas and thoughts and everything just flooding in.

After a couple of days, the faucet trickled down and eventually turned off. I was left with this smorgasbord of words and drawings all over OneNote. So I took a day or two and organized all of it, because I had to see it structured to know what I was actually looking at. And as I organized it, the vision became very clear. That vision is the Continuum of Hope…”

The Sunflower Continuum of Hope

Every stage on that graphic comes down to the same three things: why we do it, how we do it, and what keeps it going.

Father — why

Not for credit, not for a following. For His glory.

Son — how

Teaching, serving, showing up — the way Jesus did, not just talking about it.

HOLY Spirit — what CONNECTS US

The flood of ideas that became the graphic above didn't come from us. Neither does the will to keep giving.

Pre-Born!

We love working with organizations that don't talk the talk, but walk the walk. Pre-Born! is one of those organizations. They are saving babies' lives and helping expectant mothers embrace their blessing regardless of the circumstances. Not only that, they support mothers in need for the first TWO YEARS of their baby's life! Our donations go to help moms get ultrasounds and support for their new family.

Reece's Rainbow

Reece's Rainbow is a VERY important part of our family's story. Through them, we found a little girl we felt was meant to be our daughter. With the work they do, they connect children with special needs to the families who will love them forever. Our donations go to help families with the expenses surrounding their adoptions.

Amy Lane

Nestled in downtown Galveston, Texas, Amy Lane offers unique gifts to locals and cruisers from around the world. A special feature is their prayer wall — it was at this wall that many people prayed for our little boy before he joined our family. We provide products to Amy Lane and 100% of those proceeds go to help the Galveston community, as well as the prayers on the wall!

CarePortal

It is through prayer and the Lord's intervention (and Mike Rowe's Podcast) that we learned about CarePortal and became Champions for this cause. Working through a vast network of churches and volunteers, they help families in need by connecting and standing alongside them, while advocating to get support for their needs.

The Prayer Wall

Part of our Continuum of Hope is to connect others to Christ and to our Heavenly Father. Inspired by our friends John and Stacy at Amy Lane in Galveston, visitors to our store take time to read the prayers and pray for others, or leave cards so others will pray for them.

One Family

🌻 Why the Sunflower? 🌻

Every year, we plant roughly two hundred sunflowers in our yard. So when we sat down to name what we were building, we asked the kids for ideas. Our oldest daughter said "something with sunflowers," and that was that. But the name stuck because of what it means to us, not just how it sounded.

Sunflowers start as small seeds and can grow anywhere from six to twenty feet tall. Children start out as seeds too, growing in their mother's womb and long after — not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Sunflowers represent family and friendship, and in some cultures, strength and longevity. Spiritually, they turn their heads from darkness and follow the light of the sun — a good symbol for keeping our eyes fixed on our God in Heaven. The sunflower is also the national flower of the country we adopted our youngest daughter from. Children and adoption are at the center of our family, so the sunflower carries all of it: growth, family, faith, and home.

We've been blessed with a very creative family — instrumental music, painting, singing, woodworking. All of us discovering what we were given and figuring out what to do with it. Our co-founder, Adam, has always been passionate about building things. As a kid, he took pallets and built a fort in the backyard, much to his father's dismay. As a homeowner, that turned into remodeling — with the projects getting more ambitious every year. He'll tell you it's all about "the thrill of the build."

That thrill didn't stay contained to the workshop. The same hands that were happiest building a fort out of scrap pallets were just as happy tearing out a wall or rebuilding a room the right way. So when the woodworking side of things took root, the home side came right along with it — same builder, same standards, same reason for doing it. Add in Kara's heart for children and adoption, and the kids' talents across every discipline under the sun, and you get an organization built to use every gift God gave this family for His will and His glory. Perfection is the goal. Humanity is the reality. We're imperfect, we're sinners, we make mistakes — and we learn, and we grow.

Two Businesses

Sunflower Woodworx

Handcrafted wood goods — keepsake boxes, games, clocks, furniture, and the occasional idea that shouldn't have worked but did. Every piece is built by real hands, in a real shop, veteran-owned and faith-guided from the first cut to the final finish.

Sunflower Homeworx

Home repairs, renovations, and improvements, handled with the same "thrill of the build" and the same integrity as every piece that comes out of the Woodworx shop. Responsive, trustworthy, and guided by the same faith that built the business next door.
